IN HOUSE V CLONE

What’s the difference between our In-House Cultivars versus our Clone only Cultivars? The simple answer: In-House refers to Cultivars(or Strains) we hunted ourselves via selective breeding practices or more commonly known as pheno-hunting. Strain? Cultivar? What does that even mean? Cultivation, in general, has prospered off of the concept of selective breeding. A common practice also applied in many other facets of life. Selective breeding or artificial selection is a process in which new organisms are developed from selecting desirable characteristics. Breeders will experiment with parent selections and breed based on the beneficial traits of that specific phenotype to reproduce, yielding offspring with those desired traits. The term phenotype refers to the observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its genetic makeup with the environment. You cannot physically observe genetics but you can observe the phenotype of the genetics in different environments.

When discussing cannabis specifically, the term strain has become ever popular in distinguishing these plants by their genetic makeup. In virtually every other cultivation practice the term Cultivar is used. Cannabis is a plant just like all the rest, because of this, we believe Cultivar is the proper term to use.

Our genetic lineup is hand selected genetics from the most renowned breeders. These include phenos we sourced as well as onejs we selected ourselves. Breeders grow for seeds and every seed of a genotype can express different characteristics. The seeds are referred to as different phenotypes. Why? Because some phenos can be shorter plants, some taller. One can taste and smell much sweeter while another could be gassy. In our case, the most important characteristic’s we are targeting is flavor profile and resin quality/coverage. We look for trichomes that have a big bulbous head and a short stalk (similar to a mushroom). When growers and breeders find a specific phenotype of a cultivar we like, we establish a mother plant. We then cut clones off of the mother plant to guarantee we are getting that same pheno every time and those characteristics we desire. We will talk about this more when we dive deeper into vegetation and cloning specifically. In short, In-House are the genetics we acquired seeds of and pheno hunted ourselves while clones are the cultivars we acquired otherwise via friends and growers in the industry over the years.
