DISTILLATE

What is distillate and what is our opinion of it? Distillate is one of the most common cannabis extracts on the market. It is refined through the process of distillation. Distillation is defined as the process of purifying a liquid by the conversion of the liquid into vapour that is subsequently condensed back to liquid form (using heat and cooling). This extract typically resembles a honey-like consistency and is odorless and flavorless. This is arguably the most frequently used extract in Vape Pens, Edibles and Topicals because of the low cost to manufacture, and the ease of use in homogenization. What’s our issue with this method? We as purists believe in leaving the chemical makeup of the cannabis plant, as each genetic intended. Distillation is a process that refines a product so notably that there is no way to tell what type of material or what genetic /cultivar it came from. Why is that bad? We’ve said it many times. Fire in, fire out. This is a refinement process that is commonly used on poor quality material that has had issues to make it viable. Sure your distillate could be from top colas, but chances are it isn’t. Most of the time distillate is made from fan leaves or flowers that have been compromised by such things as powdery mildew or pest infestation. You would never know. A good comparison is grain alcohol. Distillate is now mass produced and has quickly become the first commoditized form of cannabis. A common term used for distillate in the industry is “hot dog water” because most hot dogs are said to be made from the scraps of the left over meat(for the most part). Add in artificial food grade terpenes to a lot of the distillate carts and you got flavored hot dog water (hash jokes of course). Another issue we see with distillate is that it is refined and isolated to a specific compound. There are 500 compounds in the cannabis plant, why isolate just one of them? There is more to this plant than the THC. That, we can promise you. Questions? Hit us up!
