Know Your Cultivar
What’s the best strain? What’s gonna get me the highest? What’s not gonna give me anxiety?
These are all important questions in the search for your favorite cannabis. However, we would never prescribe a cultivar to someone at random without an understanding of their tolerance or experience. There are some strains we can generally describe the high of – like Super Lemon Haze, Zkittlez, or OG – but even still, the end experience is relatively subjective to each consumer. We all have our own individualized endocannabinoid systems, with a unique response to the hundreds of compounds that make up the cannabis plant. So, in short, the best way to find the cannabis that works best for you is by knowing yourself. How do you get to know yourself? Trial and error.
Research the genetic backgrounds of each strain you encounter. By finding similar genetics with similar terpene profiles and effects over time, you will be able to dial in on what makes you feel the best. This is an important step: it helps you overcome looking at THC% and Indica/Sativa distinctions to drive your decision-making.
One day, technology may be available to pinpoint each of our receptors and what we react best to via personalized cannabinoid DNA variant reports. There are already companies out there developing just this. Until then, though, you’ll just have to keep trying.
