Microclimates

You will start to notice some slight differences in the jars we use for Water Hash compared to what we are considering our general concentrate jars, which we have started using for badder, sauce, sugar, rosin, diamonds, etc. The Water Hash jar is wider with more surface area but shallower. The general concentrate jar is deeper but not as wide so the terps and cannabinoids soak into one another other and don’t slide all over the bottom of the jar. This jar was also designed to be rounded in order to be able to get every morsel of hash out for that last dab. What’s the point? Preservation and minimizing the microclimates that can occur. A microclimate refers to the climate of a very small or restricted area, that typically differs from the climate of the surrounding area. The microclimates of a region are defined by the moisture, temperature, and overall atmosphere of the restricted area. When it comes to terpene preservation and keeping our concentrates as fresh as possible, these microclimates become a major factor. We have discussed this a bit in several posts, the most relevant being the post titled “Volatility”. Cultivars have different levels of volatility based on the terpenes present. The main goal of these jars was to make sure even the most volatile batches can stay in their best form for as long as possible. With that being said, we recommend keeping all concentrates in the freezer for long term storage and in the fridge for the short term. Within these storage conditions is where the microclimates come into play. To further ensure our hash is as fresh and preserved as possible we have eliminated as much of the extra space that is left between the hash and the top of the jar and added a seal that keeps it airtight. Water Hash, in its freshest form, is not very dense. Because of this, a full gram takes up a bit more space than the same amount of rosin or our solvent based concentrates which are much denser. With this in mind we started testing and designing the perfect shape and size jars for each product type to eliminate the microclimates the best we could. Essentially eliminating the amount of oxygen held in the jar which can degrade the product. More to come on storage philosophy soon. Until then….Questions? Hit us up!
